Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation….
Welcome to Dayton Avenue this morning. God is worthy of all our praise and we are glad that you have come to worship Him with us. He is risen!
I hate when I forget someone’s name. You know what it’s like: you see someone familiar coming and your mind goes blank. What do you do? “Hey man, how are you?” or, “Great to see you, buddy.”
Why do we do this? Because we don’t want that person to think we’re the kind of friend who forgets names. We don’t want to think of ourselves as the kind of friend who forgets names! But the ironic truth is that we are that kind of person – we just proved it.
We spend a lot of energy protecting our reputations. When you think about it, we usually work the hardest covering up those areas we fail the most in. The person who tries the hardest to make you think he doesn’t care what you think about him, probably cares deeply, but for some reason, believes that is a weakness.
What a contrast with Jesus. We protect a reputation we don’t deserve, but the verse above says that He left honor and glory in heaven that as God He did deserve. He made Himself of no reputation when He came to earth and went to the cross for us. That is why we are here this morning and why we glady worship Him.
Last Sunday Tyler Dellaparute joined our church. Look for him and welcome him today. The live-stream of our 11:00am morning worship service is up and running. Go to www.daytonave.org and click on the banner to stream in. Remember that there is no evening service tonight – enjoy celebrating Jesus’ resurrection with your loved ones. We love you and are praying for you; don’t hesitate to call on us. May the Risen Lord shine the light of His blessings upon you this week.
