“What can I give Him, Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man, I would do my part;
~Christina Georgina Rossetti~
Welcome to Dayton Avenue this morning. As the words of the song above say, we all have something to give Jesus as a gift of thanks for His coming to earth… our hearts.
Some Bible teachers make a point of fact that the Bible never says that angels sing – they “speak” their proclamations and praise. Don’t let that detract from your mental image of a glorious choir of angels musically pronouncing Jesus’ birth with “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
Sarah and I were discussing this once because we think the angels couldn’t help but sing. She suggested that since the announcement was metered poetry, and if angels can’t sing, perhaps they rapped it! Heaven will one day be filled with musical praise (Rev. 5), and we can fill our church with song today!
This evening at 6:00 is our business meeting – we’ll vote on some encouraging church decisions and I’ll share a Pastor’s Perspective. Please come and participate. There will be no Wednesday evening ministries this week or next – enjoy your Christmas preparations and celebrations. Check out the inside of this bulletin for more info.
A little snow has fallen, and we occasionally have to cancel church during the winter months. Level 3 snow emergencies are automatic cancellations; Level 2s are probable cancellations – check our website (daytonave.org), Facebook (Dayton Avenue Baptist Church) or tune into WHIO-TV (channel 7 or whiotv.com).
Two more weeks to give a special gift to our Lottie Moon Christmas Missions Offering. Many of you will be travelling these next weeks. We love you and will be praying for you. Merry Christmas!
