May the God of hope fill you with all joy and
peace in believing, so that you will abound
in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~Romans 15:13~
Welcome to Dayton Avenue this morning. We pray you experience God’s peace and grow stronger in your faith.
How do you envision peace? Watching a sunset? A baby sleeping quietly? Birdsong on a clear morning? Peace is not always a matter of surroundings. I recall a vivid experience of being in a crowded room singing about heaven. An overwhelming peace filled my heart as the truths I was singing about impacted me. Circumstances in our life at the time were very unsettled. It was God’s peace alone that could reach through the outside into my spirit.
Why does peace seem elusive so often, even when we know the Giver of peace personally? It may be because our natural response is to trust in our own strength to solve problems rather than calling out to the Lord for help. That is the peace described in the verse above.
This evening is the Super Bowl and some of you have plans with family and friends who are not part of our church family. I have been praying for you that the Lord will be able to use those gatherings for having conversations with eternal impact. I am also praying that the Lord opens our eyes to other opportunities that He gives us throughout the week to be His ambassadors.
Next Sunday evening at 6:00 is a special business meeting to consider a new proposal from our Long-Range Planning / Building Committee. Another Baptism Celebration is also coming soon. If you are ready to take this important step of obedience and identification, please speak with Pastor Jon so we can include you.
May God enable each of us to take the next step forward in our Christian walk, whatever that may be. Give us a call this week if we can help you and encourage you. We are praying for you.
