“May you be richly rewarded by the LORD,
the God of Israel, under whose wings you
have come to take refuge.”
Welcome to worship at Dayton Avenue Baptist Church today. The verse above describes God as having wings of protection. The historical context of that verse was a time of chaos in which everyone did what was right in his own eyes. No wonder Ruth sought refuge in God – our world today could be described the same way. But God is our refuge and strength, and we have much to praise Him for today!
George Orwell said, “At age 50, every man has the face he deserves.” By that he meant that a lifetime of smiling will give your face happy creases or a lifetime of anger could also be frighteningly etched for all to see. As followers of Jesus, however, after walking with Him for years and years, every Christian should have the face he or she doesn’t deserve! Instead, our faces should reflect the mercy and grace and joy God has showered upon us which is only possible by the Person Jesus was. When the LORD makes His face shine on us, it becomes permanently reflected in our faces.
Thank you for giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Missions Offering this past month. God is using our missions giving to reach people that we’ll probably never meet… until we get to heaven! What a great thought! Also, welcome to Jay Harris who was recently baptized and became our newest member last week.
On behalf of our church staff and pastoral team, thank you so much for your generous Christmas gifts to us. Many of you have told Sarah and me that you are praying regularly for us. When that happens, it leaves us humbled and grateful. We love you and are praying for you, too. Have a wonderful week.
