For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; – Ephesians 1:15-16
About this Ministry
For several years our Senior Adults have been known as the “Young at Heart”.
There are three major tenants to the ministry: Fellowship, Support, and Service.
Fellowship occurs when we meet once a month, on the second Monday, to enjoy a meal and entertainment arranged by Steve Thompson. The food is provided by some of the best cooks you will ever meet. After we are satisfied with food, we listen to great music and or comedy; all of which enlivens our hearts and gives us a sense of belonging.
In addition to monthly meeting, we have several other events throughout the year. Please see the schedule of events to discover what we are doing this year. In years past we have ventured to the Creation Museum and the ARK. We have stayed overnight at a bed and breakfast in Amish Country. We also love to eat at the Der Dutchman, an Amish restaurant in Plains city. We also love to get together and play games or watch a movie at the Church. If you are looking for fellowship, look no further come and join us for lots of fun.
We also fellowship as we seek to support the body of Christ. Many of us work together in promoting Vacation Bible School and working with the children. You will also find several of us involved with the AWANA program. When the Church is involved in outreach you will find the Young at Heart stuffing packets for delivery and even going door to door inviting people to become part of the Kingdom.
A major part of our ministry is partnering together with the body to meet the needs of those who can no longer get out to fellowship with us such as those who are homebound or have moved to a nursing facility. Howard Jordan heads up the nursing home ministry and faithfully ministers in nursing homes along with arranging music and preaching. Cora Kissell coordinates many home visits by young and old volunteers who commit to helping those unable to get out regular to visit with others. They come alongside the caregiver to support and comfort as the need arises. We have a great army of volunteers but can always use more.
We endeavor to work with the whole body for the purpose of connecting the entire body to the work of Christ. Functioning as one with our master allows us to complete our ministry while helping others take up the cross and follow Jesus.
